Analytical Hypnotherapy for Trauma

“Traumatic experiences do leave traces, whether on a large scale (on our histories and cultures) or close to home, on our families, with dark secrets being imperceptibly passed down through generations. They also leave traces on our minds and emotions, on our capacity for joy and intimacy, and even on our biology and immune systems” Bessel Van Der Kolk

It is important to recognise and acknowledge trauma from a truly personal perspective. Every individual person will experience traumatic events differently and it is crucial that their experience is met with empathy and compassion. Some people respond to events with an unhealthy coping mechanism, such as using drugs and alcohol as a means of escape. Others may dissociate to evade what is happening, allowing their thoughts to take them to an imagined place of safety. Sometimes people repress the trauma. This is an involuntary act where the subconscious mind buries the feelings to protect the self. Suppression is similar, but it is a voluntary response, such as keeping busy to avoid thinking about the event. Quite often the traumatic memory is blocked from conscious thought entirely.

Hypnotherapy provides a safe place the client can return to, in their mind, whenever they need to. It gently explores any traumatic event very gently, at a pace that is right for the individual. By looking at the events in this way, the subconscious mind can feel safe and protected. The associated emotions can be acknowledged compassionately, leaving the individual with a feeling of relief and calm.
